Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are depicted in popular culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. Additionally she has a mission to increase the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a university student, Sarkeesian became fascinated by the issue of gender and rights for women in the early stages. An ambitious woman who wanted to create a web series that examined the representation of gender in video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. This attack was not enough to stop her. Instead, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. In recognition of the many contributions she has made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles within the popular culture stories.
