
Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19, 1959)[2] is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles in a wide range of types of screen and stage throughout her three decades of career. Janney was awarded various awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, A Golden Globe Award, and seven Primetime Emmy Awards, in the midst of nominations to win the two Tony Awards. Janney was born in Boston as a child, but was raised within Dayton (Ohio). Her career began when she received a scholarship for education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after she graduated from Kenyon College. Janney was first seen on television in 1999 in the role of C. J. Cregg as a character in NBC's drama series The West Wing (2000-2006). In the course of her work, she won four Primetime Emmy Awards for this performance. As a result of her role as Margaret Scully, a Showtime actress in The period-based drama Masters of Sex, Janney took home this year's Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
