JoyceDeWitt first appeared on stage when she was 13 years old. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree from Ball State University. In her summer production, she was convinced by director John Toth to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never ever met Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is well-known for her character Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 period of the sitcom Three's Company, a job she landed after being cast in the show's second pilot. Janet was also in an episode of the show The Ropers which she was a part in during 1979. DeWitt was the final actor to appear in the finale of Three's Company's 1984 season. She also appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. After that she stopped acting for many years. In June of 1991 she returned to acting performing in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] Later she appeared in the TV comedy Spring Fling! A character based on her, voiced by an actress, was featured in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. She appeared in an episode Cybill and also made a brief appearance in Living Single's final episode. Her television shows from the 2000s included Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as along with Call of the Wild.
